UB Student-Athletes Take Part In Habitat For Humanity
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo had members of the women’s cross country and women’s basketball team take part in Habitat For Humanity last weekend.
The Bulls were assisting in the restoration of a home in the City of Buffalo, on Fox Street. The teams spent most of the morning working inside the home, putting up dry-wall and painting.
"I’d never been to a Habitat For Humanity event but it was always something that interested me.," said senior track and field student-athlete Leah Wightman. “Having the opportunity to participate in the event last weekend was a great experience. I learned the basics of Habitat and that the Buffalo division has had huge success since they started. I was so glad to be a part of the base-board painting, dry-wall installation, and other miscellaneous jobs they had us working on. The program as a whole benefits so many families so the fact the community is able to come together to build these homes is encouraging. I definitely enjoyed my time and I look forward to participating in the future."
This project is just one of the many that the UB student-athletes are involved in throughout the year around the community.
