2012 SAAC Executive Board Announced
BUFFALO, NY - The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced its executive board for the upcoming 2012-13 season Tuesday afternoon. Marissa Murphy will serve as the president, Cory Folk will be the vice president, Megan Abman will be the community outreach officer, Liz Murphy will be the Athletes-for-Athletes Officer, and Erin Miller will be the board's secretary.
Marissa Murphy is a enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Degree Programs Social Sciences and is entering her junior year and is a sprinter for the women’s swimming and diving team. She was a member of two record-setting relay teams in 2011-12, with the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. She won gold in both of the aforementioned events, and her 400 free relay team also set pool and conference records with their performances.
Cory Folk is a junior psychology major who is a pitcher for the UB baseball team. Cory made two starts and had eight overall appearances last season, throwing 14.2 total innings. He struck out ten batters for the season.
Megan Abman is a redshirt sophomore who plays for the women’s soccer team. Megan appeared in two games in 2011 before missing the rest of the season with an injury. Before her injury, she assisted on the eventual game-winning goal and scored a goal of her own in a 2-0 win over Colgate. She has been a top offensive threat off the bench for the Bulls and looks to return with a great season in 2012.
Liz Murphy is a senior history major for the rowing team. Competing with the Varsity Four boat this past season, Liz competed at the Head of the Genesee and the Syracuse Invitational. At the Dad Vail Regatta, Liz and her Varsity Eight team advanced to the finals and finished sixth. At the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, her second Varsity Eight boat placed fourth.
Erin Miller is a senior thrower for the UB track and field team. Erin posted the team’s top throws of the season in the discus (151-9) and the hammer (188-10). She placed fourth in the hammer at the Mid-American Conference outdoor championships, and fifth in the weight throw at the indoor championships. Miller is returning for a second season as the SAAC secretary.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is made up of a designated group of student-athletes, assembled to provide insight on the entire student-athlete experience and to offer input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives. The four new executive board members replace the 2011-12 board of President Beth Christensen, Vice President Rob Golabek, Community Outreach Officer Cornelia Willis, and AFA Officer Caitlin Curry.
