Copping And Curtiss Named Athletes Of The Week

May 7, 2012

Cameron Copping (Temple City, CA/Pasadena CC) of the baseball team threw 8.1 innings and allowed just three hits and one run in a 5-1 win over MAC West Division leader Toledo. Copping allowed a one-out hit in the bottom of the first inning, but then held the Rockets hitless until the seventh when he allowed a single to the first batter before inducing an inning-ending double play two batters later. He finished the game with four strikeouts and just three hits and the lone run. Now 4-3 this season, he has a 2.85 ERA and is limiting his opponents to just a .212 batting average in seven conference starts.

Alexis Curtiss (San Diego, CA/University City) of the softball team batted .462 over the weekend (6 for 13) including a 5 for 7 performance in two games at Akron. Curtiss hit her team-leading fifth home run and also added her 15th double of the season, second most in school history. She finished the season hitting .379, the third highest in school history and the best ever in a season by a freshman.  Curtiss finished the year as the team leader in batting average, hits, doubles, home runs and runs batted in.  Behind the plate, she threw out 20 base runners the third most in the league.
