Starakiewicz And Varsity Eight Named Athletes Of The Week

Wojciech Starakiewicz (Warsaw, Poland/Miguel de Cervantes) of the men's tennis team went 4-0 in his matches as the Bulls won their second MAC regular season title in the last three seasons. Starakiewicz scored identical 6-0, 6-4 wins over Ball State's Zane Smith and IUPUI's Luke Bielawski in singles play. For the season, the senior is 18-10 in singles and 16-11 in doubles.

UB's Varsity Eight crew of coxswain Allison Sheehan (St. Catharines, Ontario/Denis Morris Catholic) and rowers Rosa Kemp (Putnam Valley, NY/James I. O'Neill), Hannah Miller-Selzer (Ottawa, Ontario/Colonel By SS), Jacklyn Postulka (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa), Heide MacMahon-Manning (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley SS), Kaitlyn Koscielniak (Lancaster, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Shannon David (St. Catharines, Ontario/St. Francis), Sydney Gilchrist (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) and Brittany Ronald (St. Catharines, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill) won its race in Boston over UMass and MIT. The Bulls finished the 2,000-meter course in 7:17.8, a second and a half ahead of the second-place crew.
