Smith And Henry Named Athletes Of The Week

Kevin Smith (Mexico, NY/Mexico) of the wrestling was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the New York State Collegiate Championships as he went undefeated in his four matches. Wrestling at 141 pounds, Smith scored two wins by fall and is UB's first three-time New York State champion since Ray Pfeiffer (1975-77). Only 19 other wrestlers in the state have won three titles at the state meet. Smith is 24-6 for the season.

Asia Henry (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) of the women's track and field was part of two school records at the Cornell Upstate Challenge. She won the women’s 500-meters by one-hundredth of a second over teammate Donna Jeanty in 1:14.21, breaking Jeanty’s school record by more than a second. Henry also helped the women’s 4x800-meter relay team to a new school mark of 9:22.31 breaking a two-year old record.
