Robert J. Smolinski, MD
UB Athletics Head Team Physician
Women's Basketball Team Physician
Dr. Robert Smolinski has been the University at Buffalo team
physician and orthopedist since 1991. Smolinski graduated from the
University of Notre Dame and the UB School of Medicine. He
completed his orthopedic residency at UB and a fellowship in sports
medicine at Cincinnati. Smolinski is the Director of the University
at Buffalo Sports Medicine Institute. He was the Director of
Medical Clinics for both the World University Games and the Empire
State Games held at UB. Smolinski is a member of the American
College of Sports Medicine and the American Orthopedic Society for
Sports Medicine.
Marc S. Fineberg, MD
Football Team Physician
Dr. Marc S. Fineberg is the Chief of Sports Medicine at the
Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the State University of New
York at Buffalo. He joined the UB Sports Medicine Institute in
August of 1999, after completing the Sports Medicine and Shoulder
Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical
School. Dr. Fineberg graduated from Syracuse University in 1989 and
Northwestern University Medical School in 1993. He then completed a
five-year orthopedic surgery residency program at New York
University Medical Center. While at Harvard, Dr. Fineberg
functioned as assistant team physician to the New England Patriots,
Boston Bruins and the Harvard athletic teams. He was also the head
team physician for the Buffalo Destroyers football team.
John L. Leddy, MD
Assistant Team Physician
Dr. John J. Leddy received his undergraduate degree from Fordham
and his medical degree from Buffalo. He completed an Internal
Medicine residency at New England Deaconess Hospital and Harvard
University, followed by a Faculty Development Sports Medicine
Fellowship at Buffalo and the Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
Leddy is board certified in Internal Medicine and has a Certificate
of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine. He is a UB Associate
Professor for Clinical Orthopedics and the Associate Director of
the UB Sports Medicine Institute. Leddy has been a UB team
physician since 1991.
William M. Wind, Jr., MD
Men's Basketball Team Physician
Dr. William M. Wind joined the orthopaedic staff at University
Sports Medicine in August of 2003. A Western New York native, Wind
graduated Magna Cum Laude from UB and completed medical school as a
member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society at UB’s School
of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He did an orthopaedic surgery
residency with UB’s Department of Orthopaedics and then
completed an additional year of training in a Sports Medicine
Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, where he was an assistant team
physician for the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the
Cleveland Indians and the head team physician for Baldwin-Wallace
College.
John Hanavan, FNP
Nurse Practitioner
John Hanavan is a nurse practitioner with over 20 years of
experience and extensive training in orthopedics, sports medicine
and family medicine. He earned his bachelor’s degree in
nursing from D’Youville College, completed the Family Nurse
Practitioner program at the Albany Medical College of Union
University, and in May of 2002, completed training to become a
registered nurse first assistant. Hanavan has worked closely with
all of UB’s student-athletes since 1999, providing event
coverage, sports and school physicals and evaluation and management
of orthopedic injuries.
David Croglio, DDS
Team Dentist
Dr. David Croglio received his bachelor of arts in biology from the
University at Buffalo in 1983, and his DDS from the University at
Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1987. He is in private
practice in Amherst, NY and is also a Clinical Assistant Professor
in the UB Department of Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Croglio has been
the Bulls’ team dentist as well as course director of Sports
Dentistry at UB since its inception in 1995. He is a member of the
International Academy for Sports Dentistry, the American Dental
Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
